Frequently Asked Questions
Can I come solo?
Absolutely. Many of our guests choose to join the retreat on their own — it’s a wonderful opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and open up to new friendships in a peaceful, supportive space. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be warmly welcomed and surrounded by a community of like-minded souls. Whether you’re seeking quiet reflection or meaningful connection, you’ll find the space to simply be you.
Can I book with friends?
Absolutely! Sharing this experience with friends can make the retreat even more special. Just let us know when you register that you’d like to share a room, and we’ll happily arrange it for you. Whether you come with loved ones or on your own, there will be plenty of opportunities to connect, unwind, and feel part of a supportive community.
What if I need to cancel? Will I get my money back?
We understand that sometimes plans change, and we want to make the process as easy and compassionate as possible.
If you cancel 90 days or more before the retreat begins, you’ll receive a full refund of all payments made, excluding the non-refundable $500 deposit.
If you cancel between 60 and 31 days before the retreat, 50% of your total payments will be refunded.
Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer refunds for cancellations made within 30 days of the retreat start date.
We truly appreciate your understanding — and if something unexpected comes up, please reach out. We’ll do our best to support you wherever we can.
Can I still get a spot if it’s sold out?
If the retreat is full, don’t worry — you can still join our waitlist by getting in touch with us. Should a spot open up, we’ll reach out to you right away. Spaces sometimes become available, so there’s always a chance to join us for this special experience. And even if it doesn’t work out this time, we’d love to keep you updated about future retreats and opportunities to connect.
Do I need to have a regular yoga, Pilates, or fitness practice to attend?
Not at all. Our teachers are here to support you exactly where you are, offering gentle guidance and plenty of modifications so every class feels accessible and enjoyable. Each session is an invitation, not an expectation — you’re free to move as much or as little as you wish. If your body or spirit calls for quiet time with a book by the pool or a peaceful rest in your room, that’s perfectly part of the experience too. This retreat is all about honoring what feels best for you.
How do I secure my spot?
There are a couple of ways to reserve your place. You can email us at info@ajoyfullife.org, and we’ll hold your spot for 7 days while sending you an invoice for payment. Or, if you prefer, you can book directly online, choosing to pay either the deposit or the full retreat price. If you choose to pay just the deposit, we’ll email you an invoice for the remaining balance 30 days after your deposit is paid.
If none of these options work and you’d like a payment plan, simply send us an email and we’ll happily work something out. Whichever way feels easiest, your spot will be secured and you can start looking forward to your retreat!
I have special dietary requirements. Can that be accommodated?
Absolutely. We want every part of your retreat experience — including your meals — to feel nourishing and effortless. Our chefs are delighted to cater to all dietary needs and preferences, ensuring you can relax and enjoy each meal with ease. Simply let us know your requirements in advance, and we’ll take care of the rest with love and attention to detail.
How do I get to the retreat from the airport?
We want your journey to feel smooth and effortless from the moment you arrive in Sri Lanka. Private transport can be arranged upon request, so you can simply sit back, unwind, and enjoy the scenic ride to the retreat. If you’d like us to organize this for you, just let us know your travel details — we’ll make sure everything is taken care of.
Do I have to do all the classes each day?
Not at all. All classes at the retreat are completely optional — you are free to join whichever sessions feel right for you, and skip any that don’t call your name. Your experience is entirely your own, so if you feel like resting, reading by the pool, or simply soaking in the peaceful surroundings, that’s perfectly fine. You’re also welcome to enjoy any other optional activities during class times — this week is all about honoring what feels best for you.
Are flights included in the retreat price?
Flights are not included in the retreat price, giving you the flexibility to choose the travel arrangements that suit you best. Once you arrive, everything else will be beautifully taken care of — from the moment you step into our retreat space, you can simply relax and let the experience unfold.
Where do I book my flights to?
You’ll want to book your flights to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo, Sri Lanka. From there, private transport to the retreat can be arranged, so you can simply relax and enjoy the journey without any stress.
When can I do my surfing or spa treatments?
You can enjoy your spa treatments and surfing whenever it feels right for you! The three complimentary spa treatments and access to the bathhouse can be booked at reception anytime during your stay.
Surfing can be arranged on any day except our safari day. Just give us at least 24 hours’ notice (the earlier, the better) and we’ll make it happen. This week is all about flexibility and honoring your rhythm, so you can choose the experiences that feel most inviting each day.
What can I do in my down time or free time?
Your free time at the retreat is yours to enjoy however feels best. You might relax by the pool, wander along the beach that our resort backs onto, or explore the nearby town — there are beautiful local restaurants we’d be happy to recommend.
If you’d like to do a little more, you’re also welcome to choose from any of our optional add-on experiences (see here for the full list; add-ons are at your own cost). Whether you’re seeking rest, adventure, or a little of both, this time is all about honoring what feels good for you.
Do I need any immunisations for this trip?
We recommend checking in with your GP or healthcare provider, who can advise you on what’s best for your individual needs. That said, immunisations are not a requirement for attending the retreat — you can relax knowing this is simply a precautionary suggestion, not a mandatory step.
What power plug do I need for Sri Lanka?
We recommend bringing a universal power adapter to cover all your devices. The resort also accommodates both US and Indian power plugs, so you’ll have no trouble keeping everything charged and ready to go.
What will I need to bring extra money for?
Most of your retreat experience is included, but it’s helpful to bring a little extra for things like tuk-tuk rides, tipping the resort staff, souvenirs, airport transfers, or any optional activities you choose to add on yourself. Everything else will be beautifully taken care of, so you can focus on relaxing and enjoying your time.
Are the prices listed just for the room, or for the entire retreat?
The prices outlined are for the entire retreat — not just the room. This includes all classes, excursions, meals, and spa inclusions listed in your package. If you’re unsure what’s not included, you can check out our Inclusions / Exclusions / Add-Ons page for a full breakdown. The variation in pricing simply reflects the different room types available, so you can choose the option that best suits your preferences.
